Manchester – How To Secure Outstanding Progress In Pupils’ Work

Course Overview

Attending this training session will enable school leaders to appreciate how pupils’ workbooks and other associated evidence are used during an inspection to secure a judgement of typicality. They will be able to identify best practice in the use of marking, assessment and feedback to ensure good and outstanding progress for pupils. Furthermore, they will have the opportunity to review their school policy to ensure the highest expectations of pupils’ progress and quality of teaching.

Course Duration

This one-day, tutor-led training course is held at a quality hotel (minimum 3*). It provides excellent networking opportunities and includes refreshments and lunch each day.

9:00am arrival for 9:30am start with a 4:00pm close.

Who is the course suitable for?

Secondary and primary experienced and new leaders, headteachers, deputy and assistant headteachers, heads of department/faculties and subject leaders and those wanting to contribute to whole school improvement.

NB: delegates will need to bring real examples of pupils’ books taken at random from a range of subjects and year groups.

• Evaluating the quality of teaching and learning using the current Ofsted inspection handbook
• Identifying progress using lesson observation, book scrutiny and other monitoring and evaluation tools
• Understanding teachers’ appraisal and the link to effective monitoring and evaluation
• Evaluating pupil outcomes using the current Ofsted evaluation schedule
• How to secure effective pupil progress meetings (agendas and proformas)
• Providing effective feedback to staff on the outcomes of lesson observations and work scrutiny
• Securing increased confidence in making Ofsted-style judgements about the quality of teaching, learning and assessment
• Confidence in using a range of supportive proformas for gathering and evaluating evidence from lesson observations, book scrutiny, learning walks and pupil progress meeting
