1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Supporting the Learning in PE & School Sports

Overview:

The 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education and School Sport has been developed in partnership with the Association for Physical Education (afPE) and is supported by employers and the industry. The qualification further develops your knowledge and understanding of a number of roles in providing Physical Education and School Sport (PESS). While it is delivered through the medium of PESS, the skills may be used by learners aspiring to work in other sporting roles, such as coaching. 100% of the learning that you will receive will support you in being able to assist others in the delivery of physical education and school sport in a suitable environment.

The qualification comprises eight units of assessment. During your achievement of the qualification you will complete the following learning outcomes:

  • Communicating and maintaining professional relationship with children, young people and adults
  • understanding how children and young people develop, recognising when additional support may be required
  • understanding schools as organisations and the infrastructure behind this (education policy, legislation, school policies and procedures, school roles and responsibilities of staff and other key individuals)
  • being able to support, and assist with the review of, assessment for learning, working with both learners and teachers
  • Planning, delivering and reviewing physical education and school sport programmes

During your learning and assessment programme, you will be assessed on the completion of a series of written tasks, the delivery of a number of individual session plans and self-reflection activities.

Alongside an NGB recognised level 2 coaching qualification the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education and School Sport is recognised as the industry standard qualification for Senior children’s activity professionals by the trade association for providers of sports and physical activity in schools and the wider community.

The qualification also has the support of CIMSPA, the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity, as an industry-relevant qualification contributing to the industry’s professional framework also.

 

Pre Requisites:

 

To access the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education and School Sport you need to be 17 years of age of older, hold a Level 2 Physical Education or sport-related qualification (examples include the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Learning in Physical Education and School Sport, GCSE in Physical Education (Grades A-C), etc) and be able to effectively communicate in English prior to registering for the qualification.

 

Career Pathway:

The 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education and School Sport prepares you for employment in a school sport setting through providing an introduction to opportunities for you to work as a physical education and school sport professional such as a children’s activity professional; sports development officer; sports coach; sports volunteer or leader.

The qualification can help you become a qualified Teaching Assistant (TA) or Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA). The qualification assessment has been mapped against professional standards for teaching assistants developed in June 2016 and can help provide evidence for completion of other teaching related qualifications.

1st4sport Level 2 Award in Multi Skills Development in Sport

Overview:

This qualification is designed to provide benefit to you through the skills and knowledge required to enable you to understand participants and their needs, develop your knowledge of multi-skills development in sport and prepares you to demonstrate practical coaching skills in the context of the fundamentals of movement, fundamental movement skills and fundamental sports skills. The qualification is composed of a single mandatory unit.

The qualification is recognised as the industry standard level 2 qualification for multi-skills development in sport by UK Coaching. It is also recognised by and has the support of a range of providers including FE colleges.

 

Pre Requisites:

The qualification is designed to provide qualified coaches with an introduction to the processes and principles of supporting child development through multi-skills. This will include understanding how to support child development through multi-skills via the practical coaching of linked and progressive multi-skills sessions.

Prior to registration you are required to:

  • be appropriately identified
  • be at least 17 years of age
  • hold or be working towards a minimum of a recognised Level 2 sports specific coaching qualification or equivalent. Equivalent qualifications must include evidence of planning, delivering and reviewing coaching sessions. The following are examples:
    – Level 2 Award in the Principles for Coaching Sport
    – Level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Preparations for Coaching Sport
    – Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Learning in Physical Education and School Sport
    – A Level 2 sports coach
    – Accredited Gym Instructor qualification
    – QTS + Physical Education specialism
    – BSc Degree in Sports Coaching (inclusive of practical delivery)
    – or other equivalent based on individual application.
  • be able to communicate effectively in English.

 

Career Pathway:

 

This qualification leads to further learning or training in the area of coaching sport. This qualification may lead to paid or voluntary roles relating to coaching multi-skills.

The skills and knowledge developed through this qualification may also be used to enable you to progress to other industry-relevant qualifications in coaching other sports, activity leadership, supporting Physical Education in schools sport and sports development. You may wish to progress to the 1st4sport Level 3 Award in the Principles for Coaching Sport  qualification to broaden your knowledge and understanding of the principles for coaching.
